Cashmere

Cashmere is a natural fiber known for its exceptional softness, lightness and warmth. At project AJ117, we value cashmere for its gentle feel and ability to provide warmth without weight, making it a beautiful choice for knitwear and seasonal layers.

We use cashmere for its comfort, breathability and refined texture. Its fine fibers create a soft, smooth surface while providing natural insulation.

Cashmere comes from the soft undercoat of cashmere goats, primarily raised in cold, mountainous regions. The quality of cashmere depends on the length and fineness of the fibers, with longer, finer fibers offering greater softness and durability.
Origin

Cashmere is collected from the fine undercoat of cashmere goats, usually during their natural seasonal shedding. The fibers are carefully combed or collected, then cleaned, sorted and spun into yarn.

The softness and quality of cashmere depend on the fineness and length of the fibers, as well as how they are processed. Responsible sourcing also considers animal welfare, grazing practices and the protection of natural grasslands.

Responsible Cashmere

We prioritize sourcing from herders who practice responsible grazing and long-term land stewardship.

Where possible, we collaborate with partners aligned with internationally recognized standards such as the Responsible Cashmere Standard (RCS), which supports:

Respect for animal welfare

Protection of grasslands and biodiversity

Responsible herd management

Supply chain transparency

Our approach to cashmere centers on traceability and environmental balance - ensuring integrity from source to garment.

Properties

Exceptionally soft: Fine fibers create a smooth and gentle feel against the skin.

Lightweight: Provides warmth without feeling heavy.

Temperature-regulating: Helps maintain warmth while allowing excess heat to escape.

Breathable: Allows moisture vapor to pass through for comfortable wear.

Naturally insulating: Fine fibers help trap warmth close to the body.
Care

Cashmere needs gentle care to maintain its softness and shape.

Hand wash or use a delicate wool cycle at 30°C, if permitted by the care label.

Use a mild detergent suitable for wool and cashmere.

Avoid tumble drying.

Dry flat to maintain the garment's shape.

Light pilling may occur during initial wear due to the natural fineness of the fibers. This can be gently removed with a cashmere comb. Always follow the garment's care label to maintain its quality over time.
