women's day with dorte andersen
Today we’re celebrating you.
Project.AJ117 wants to celebrate International Women´s Day with Copenhagen based expert in facial yoga Dorte Andersen, as well as a longtime friend of the brand. With years of experience in the yoga industry, she has built a reputation for her natural way to keep the face strong and maintain the fresh skin. She inspires other women through her online universe and has written a book about the face yoga.
We spoke with Dorte to hear more about her yoga journey, what International Women’s Day means to her and how she defines success in life.
ㅤ
What does International Women’s Day mean to you?
I support gender equality and women’s rights, and I’m deeply grateful for the work women have accomplished over the decades. It’s not something that effects my everyday life, but what matters even more to me is living a good life and standing firmly in who I am. My voice in society is important — and I hope to inspire other women to recognise that they have a voice too.
Who has been the most influential woman in your life, and why?
My mother. She taught me that it’s possible to be both soft and strong at the same time. She was an incredibly feminine and powerful woman, and she passed those qualities on to us — her children.
ㅤ
Which other successful women do you look up to?
There have been many successful women who have inspired me over the years. In later life, I found great inspiration in the author Elizabeth Gilbert, who wrote the book Eat Pray Love. She inspired me to travel to India, where I discovered yoga.
Susanne Bjerrehuus has also been a source of inspiration to me — both in my younger years and later in life. The way she embraced being a woman and dared to do things others might not have dared to do, perhaps because of a certain upbringing, truly inspired me. She had the courage to do things I might not have dared to do myself.
ㅤ
What are you most proud of having achieved in your life?
I am most proud of what happened after I retired and closed the office door for the last time. Another door opened for me. I had always dreamed that once my children had moved out and I retired, I would travel to India — and I did.
I planned three months in India, trained as a yoga teacher, and it opened up an entirely new life and new opportunities. When I returned home from India at 68 with my yoga certification, I was incredibly proud. Since then, I have hosted face yoga workshops, created an online universe, and written a book about Face Yoga.
What is your best advice for other women?
Don’t wait for doors to open — open them yourself. If you carry a dream inside you about something you want to achieve in life, start preparing for it now. Make a plan.
It’s about reaching for the opportunities life offers you and having the courage to take chances. Make your dreams a reality.
ㅤ
How would you describe your personal style?
I gravitate towards bohemian styles and soft silhouettes. That said, something magical also happens when I put on a classic jacket — though it’s not usually my first choice. I’m drawn to a softer look, which is why I love your pieces.
How would you describe success — both personally and professionally?
Success is freedom. It gives me a sense of calm and meaning in everything I do in my daily life.
